Fayetteville is a military city, housing both Fort Liberty and Pope Army Airfield. Fayetteville State University has both an Army and Air Force Officer ROTC programs, furthering the connection between the university and the broader community of Fayetteville. Every year there are new officers commissioned from Fayetteville State University's ROTC program into the Army or Air Force.
