Abstract
This chapter highlights the significance of nuclear radioactive sources in conjunction with the concept of luminescence. The mechanism of luminescence induced by energetic radiation, such as X-rays, alpha, beta, or gamma rays, is complex and necessitates highly sensitive detectors for accurate detection and covers basic applications of luminescence due to radioactivity including Cherenkov mechanism and scintillation. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
