Abstract
Maple is one of the most popular computer algebra systems that support symbolic and numeric computation and graphics. Maple Animation is a powerful tool that can help in comprehending many fundamental concepts in mathematics and other sciences. This paper deals with the use of maple animation capabilities to demonstrate many fundamental concepts in mathematics that are difficult to explain verbally or to show with static pictures. We will show how Maple animations effectively convey different concepts, e.g., visualizing vertical line test, limits, application of derivatives and antiderivatives, tangent plane to a surface, etc. We present problems taken from the literature to exemplify and explain Maple animation procedures. Using Maple in teaching mathematics facilitates the students with a tool to experiment and visualize complicated mathematical concepts and thus, strengthen their grasp of the subject. We have also included students' opinions about this teaching methodology to show the interest students develop during such courses.
