Abstract

UML class diagrams are typically used for representing a static knowledge about objects, their properties and relationships. In this paper we will demonstrate how inference capabilities can be added to static UML graphs resulting in knowledge diagrams. Knowledge diagrams can be built to gain a deeper understanding of a subject area, to prepare better presentations about the subject, to guide knowledge discovery, or to support inference. In this paper we introduce knowledge diagrams that allow for a controlled incompleteness and inconsistency. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.
