Computer modeling of aids epidemiology

Mia Burgos, Fayetteville State University

Abstract

In this research the techniques of mathematical modeling and computer simulations are applied to an epidemiological model of HIV-1 induced AIDS. The mathematical model incorporates interactions between individuals who have full-blown AIDS and groups with a highly susceptible and low-risk individuals. In particular, computer simulations are used to determine the various long term outcome, based on the transition rates and probabilities between the groups. The steady state dynamics under various initial population data are clearly exhibited as well as the effects of external influx of individuals into each category on the local and global dynamics of the disease.
