Abstract
The contention of this paper is that the ecological ccnsequences of the activities of man are adversely contributing to the economic conditions in Nigeria. The author recognizes that the ecological consequences of natality, migration patterns, and land-use practices, are beginning to impact the Nigerian economy. The challenge facing Nigeria is to accelerate economic develoment in an environmentally responsible manner. This implies achieving environmentally sustainable development that will meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the needs of future generations. The focus must be on an effective environmentally benign intensive farming, resource management methods and an intensified family planning program. -Author
