Abstract

The present work examines the biography of Cervantes' wife - some 31 legal documents are conserved about Catalina -, as well as the possibility of a covenant of separation or divorce between Catalina Palacios Salazar y Vozmediano and Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. It is a first documented work about the wife of Miguel de Cervantes. There was some mention and citation in some previous work, above all, in the work of Luis Astrana Marín, The Heroic and Exemplary Life of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (1948-1958), but there was no complete outline of the profile of Catalina. This study sets out the new discoveries about the character of the wife of the writer and invites the reader to follow an analysis of the documents of Cervantes in detail, since there is still a great deal of research to be done in order to discover the truth about the life of Cervantes.
