Abstract

Make It Home is a children's book written by Christina Barksdale and illustrated by Mynecia Steele. Make It Home walks families through a conversation between a young boy and his parents. This conversation is centered around police brutality, effective communication with law enforcement, and, more importantly, effective communication in discussing a complex topic with children. Make It Home was designed to assist families who parent minority children. It was also intended to help bridge the gap between minority children and law enforcement until there is a day when our children are no longer afraid, and mutual respect can be given between all parties.
